It’s difficult for me, personally, to finish writing and editing a story without yeeting it out into the world at once. At the very least I like to give ARCs to early readers so they can read it before its release, and review it soon after. I like to share my stories with readers, and that’s part of why I write instead of just spinning daydreams in my head! But it turns out that sometimes, finishing a story doesn’t mean I can do as I wish with it, immediately after.

I mentioned in my previous newsletter that I was working on a cozy fantasy anthology submission. Well, I finished writing it, and it’s a lovely 10k word cozy romantasy novellette! It’s called Dollshops & Deathmages. Our heroine crafts magical dolls, and she’s quite flummoxed when a Deathmage with brooding hot looks and a cinnamon roll personality ends up locked in with her at the magical dollshop.

I would like nothing better than to share it right away, but the anthology has been postponed to mid-May. It’s disappointing, because we’d originally planned to launch the anthology earlier in the summer. But I’m still excited. It’s SO going to be worth the wait!

Plans, and the current writing

Since I’ve finished writing Dollshops & Deathmages, I’m going to make it the first book/prequel to a new cozy series called Creature Comforts. I’m now working on another cozy fantasy romance project as part of the series. It’s titled Dragons & Debutantes and it’s in the early stage of drafting.

It features dragons, of course, and a heroine who really doesn’t want to get married off to some nobleman (in contrast with her mother’s hopes for her). I love writing about heroines who are finding their calling, and similar to the heroine of Dollshops, her search for something she loves will lead her to a craft… I won’t say any more for now!
