On unpublishing Bloodhunt Academy and moving newsletter platforms

Changes, changes! + what's next Mynah Clement

It has been a while since I wrote to you! Much has changed since then.

I moved newsletter platforms from Substack to Fika. It was an easy decision.

A not-so-easy decision: I had to unpublish Bloodhunt Academy. Amazon was giving me rather a lot of trouble, limiting my account so that I couldn’t edit any details about the book (including modifying its price for sales and promos). It didn’t make sense to leave the book up when I had no control over it.

Although Amazon Support hasn’t solved much, I have the support of indie fantasy romance author colleagues who are helping me figure it out! Amazon has the lion’s share of online book sales, after all, so I’m not going to give up selling my books on the platform altogether.

However, I am leaving KU. Being enrolled in KU involves a clause that you won’t make your books available anywhere else, and this experience with Amazon showed me that I’d feel generally more secure and less helpless having my eggs in more baskets. I’ll be publishing future books wide, on all the major ebook retailers. And I’ll enroll my books in subscription services that don’t require exclusivity, like Kobo Plus.

What about the future of Bloodhunt Academy?

I’m not going to let it languish in my drafts, not to worry. Bloodhunt Academy was supposed to be a duology, so I’m going to re-release Bloodhunt Academy with two books’ worth of story (by expanding it and releasing it as a standalone instead of a duology). If you purchased the first book of Bloodhunt Academy when it was a planned duology, or received an ARC, you’ll get to read the revised and expanded Bloodhunt Academy for free. Just email mynahclement@gmail.com and let me know, I’ll add you to the list. If you didn’t get to read Bloodhunt Academy, and want to read the version I originally published (incomplete on its own, mind you) while you wait for the expanded version, email me and let me know. I’ll send you an ePub, also free.

Republishing a book with significant changes back to Amazon is rather fiddly, so I’m not sure I’ll put it back up there. I’ll still sell it, though. Somewhere. That’s for future Mynah to wrangle.

What’s coming next?

I’m participating in a cozy fantasy anthology with other amazing authors. I’ll share more about that closer to the anthology’s release. So I’m still plodding along writing, even while my authorial plans are undergoing an overhaul. I write, no matter what!

Thanks for being a constant for me while I deal with change.
